What should I expect? A link to an online form where I can easily and securely enter our organization's details. And when I click submit, my data is transferred to, in this case, SAP to create a supplier in. That was the idea of digitization, right? That we were going to save time?!
How it went? I received an email with an attachment; a .doc file (au!). After clicking away the various security warnings in Word, I can edit the file. I fill in all kinds of sensitive information such as bank details, legal and personal data, and then attach the form (I was explicitly asked!) to email back. The recipient will then open the form and type again, yes — really — I asked, into SAP.
This entire process had a turnaround time of four business days and took roughly 30-40 minutes of productive time. Yes, that's how I get busy too! And aside from the expensive labour productivity, what about the security & privacy aspect? Of that form, three copies were quickly made. I have no idea what else happens to all those documents. Surely that could be different, wouldn't you say? And as far as we are concerned, that also needs to be different!
Integrating the ERP world with the low-code universe
In our opinion, the example above is a very good use case for a low-code application. Because unlocking SAP to external users in order to enter this information directly into the source is often a step too far. But one Power App that collects this information securely, linked to a flow that facilitates any additional control, for example via a message via Teams, and then the data via a connector offering it to SAP was made in no time!
Name five things
It may be a simple example, but these types of use cases can be a big saving if you extrapolate them to an entire organization. I'm sure there are plenty of examples that are really digitized by these kinds of simple applications. Of course, we are happy to help you with this! How to get on track yourself? By asking at any department “call me five things you think, you should be smarter...”. You'll be amazed how much profit there is to be made!
Want to know more about integrating an ERP platform with the Microsoft Power Platform? Wondering if your (legacy) applications are also suitable for connecting to the low-code world? Found a concrete use case? Let's talk! We'd love to help you...
PS: In this post, SAP can be replaced with any ERP platform! And to be honest, Power Platform can also be replaced by another low-code platform. The concept is the same! For example, Mendix (another low-code platform) has a whole nice case by Mamet about integrating their ERP platform with low-code to make digital innovation possible.
