As a Lead Engineer at Blis Digital...

You are no longer the engineer who writes code line by line and reviews pull requests. You are the director who steers AI agents to build, while you do the thinking: architecture, scope and the final quality. On top of that you coach less experienced engineers in this craft, and you help shape how the whole of Blis works AI-native.

You work with colleagues who know exactly where each other's strengths lie. As Lead, you are the Engineer in our golden triangle: together with the client as Product Owner and a Business Consultant, you form the core team behind a challenge.

Around that core team you build a small ownership team: often three to five engineers, complemented by AI agents. You often work on several of these challenges at the same time and give daily direction to the engineers in those teams. You report to the CTO.

How we work: AI-Native Engineering

At Blis, engineers write less and less code themselves. AI agents handle the implementation. What remains is the work that really matters: breaking down the problem properly, capturing the scope in a working prototype, steering agents precisely and critically validating their output. Whoever merges the code is responsible for it, even if an agent wrote it.

We also deliberately let go of the standard agile rituals. Our manifesto steers on value iterations, not on sprints and ceremonies by the book.

For you as a Lead Engineer, this means in concrete terms:

• You are ultimately responsible for the architecture of your projects, even when agents produce most of the code.
• You make sure solutions stay pragmatic: the simplest approach that meets all requirements, defensible in client language towards the business consultant.
• You divide your time roughly 50% engineering yourself, 30% coaching less experienced engineers, 20% your own development and contributing to the CTO office.
• You contribute to developing and improving our AI patterns and tooling used across teams, and you actively think along about how the whole of Blis works AI-native.

What will you do?

You design technical solutions and architecture for complex client challenges, always choosing the best approach that truly solves the problem. You steer AI agents as your primary building tool and work daily with an agentic harness such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, with C#, TypeScript, ASP.NET Core, Docker, MSSQL and Azure DevOps as your trusted foundation. You translate the working prototype into clear frameworks and boundaries for the build, and you make sure what is delivered is technically sound, secure and fits the client.

You also regularly sit down with clients: you think along about scope and estimates, and help build the AI-native story at strategic accounts.

Everything figured out already? No. Good ideas are welcome. You know that the best technical solution does not fit every situation, due to time or budget. So come up with creative solutions. Well-considered experimentation should absolutely be possible.

Must haves

• Extensive, demonstrable experience (10+ years) as a software engineer, with a strong background in C#, ASP.NET Core, TypeScript, Docker and Microsoft SQL.
• Experience coaching and technically guiding developers or engineers.
• Strong architecture ownership: you recognise architecture drift and safeguard consistent patterns, including in agent-generated code.
• The ability to make decisions amid uncertainty and complexity, without all information being complete.
• The ability to justify technical choices in non-technical, client-focused language.
• Experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps).
• You have a good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
• A bachelor's (HBO+) level of working and thinking.

Nice to haves

• Experience with AI-native/agentic development: translating prototypes into clear scope agreements, steering AI agents (e.g. Claude Code) and validating their output.
• Experience setting up evaluation frameworks or quality gates for AI-generated code, and building automated security and quality checks into the build process.
• Experience configuring agent environments (guardrails, CLAUDE.md, MCP servers, tool permissions).
• Experience with multi-agent orchestration for complex, parallel workflows.
• Active as a speaker or author within the tech community (blogs, talks, meetups).
