What is a data warehouse?
Sounds fancy, but a data warehouse is really just a smart place where we collect all our important information. Whether it's customer data, how many hours we're working on something, or what we still have to invoice, everything comes together. Thanks to convenient links with our ERM and ERP systems, we have a mountain of data. We retrieve that data via the available APIs and store everything in an SQL database.
Conjuring with data: Azure Logic Apps
Okay, so we have all that data, but what do we do with it? We use Azure Logic Apps to transform that amount of information into something we can really use. For example, we establish relationships between companies, contacts and projects. In addition, it helps us with database standardization, so that we store data efficiently. Based on all this data, we created a PowerBI Semantic Model where all data is available as useful information, and so we can create essential Power BI reports that serve as reporting and control tools.
Sharing success with Microsoft Teams
We think it's important that our colleagues are aware of what's going on. And one of those things is that we like to share which new projects have “fallen”. In other words: our successes. That's why we created something cool with Azure Logic Apps and the Adaptive Cards for Microsoft Teams.
Every day, an Azure Logic App automatically checks what new deals are in the SQL database and looks for relevant information, such as the expected start date. For each deal, the Logic App generates an Adaptive Card, which is automatically posted to a Microsoft Teams Channel. This map contains essential information about the customer, the type of order and administrative details.
The benefits
The nice thing about this solution is that everyone knows about our successes, even colleagues who don't search for information in Power BI reports. And, of course, sharing successes also contributes to the sense of group. Adoption is high because everyone works with Teams.
A nice bonus is that the solution saves us a lot of time, because we don't have to update anything manually.
